General Information Regarding Our Tours

Coaching in Bavaria has been in business since 1974 and has celebrated their 25th anniversary 1999. The owner, Mr. Nemitz, has received many honours on behalf of Coaching in Bavaria including an award of the "Best Cultural Travel Idea 1988" by a guild of Travel Writers at the Travel Fair "Matka", held in Helsinki, Finland. Most recently, Ann Waigand, editor of the Educated Traveler Newsletter, selected Coaching in Bavaria 1999 program sponsored by the United States Trust for Historic Preservation as one of her top ten most intriguing "thinking tours" of the world for 1999. In September 2003 these tours have been taken into the famous book "1.000 places to stay before you die".

Coaching In Bavaria operates a variety of tour programs ranging in length from four days to fourteen days. Prices range from € 339,- for the two-day King Ludwig tour to more than € 4.950,-- for the 14-day program done in Hungary. Travel is done in a diversity of carriages, open hunting carriages, shooting breaks, to regular postal coach carriages with "four-in-hand" PLUS two additional horses (cock horses) when ascending through the Alps. Capacity for the various carriages range from four persons to nine guests although capacity for individual programs can be as many as twenty two guests and more. Private tours can be arranged for your small group.

If you have never traveled by horse-drawn coach before, you might wish to get your "feet wet" by taking either the four-day or six-day King Ludwig tour. Later, when you find you enjoy the "Romance of Coach Travel", you can opt for a longer "Journey across the Alps in a Horse-Drawn Carriage" or any one of the programs listed in the enclosures.

These tour programs are NOT for everyone. They are outside the mass tourism market. Not every amenity of a deluxe or first class tours can be met (although we try heartily in this regard!). The balance is: Our guests will see people and scenery and receive a hospitality rarely seen or given to other tourists. Also, where many large tour operators have huge busses which travel between 300 – 450 miles per day, our pace is considerably slower! Somewhere between 18 and 35 miles would be the norm. As a guest, YOU, along with the coach and horses, will be the center of attention. You’ll have to smile and wave a lot to passers-by and the locals as you enter small towns and villages. Get used to it. Whether you like it or not, your face will appear in photos taken by people all over the world.

This is NOT your average travel experience. This is an adventure! Prepare to climb aboard the coaches from yesterday and be transported back in time as your handlers take you on a scenic land cruise. You will see the butterflies and honey-bees, smell the flowers up close and personal, travel on tracks and paths not used by cars, trucks or busses. Through forest green, meadows swaying slightly in the breeze, and along riverbanks and lakes, as you meander along at a pace you thought you would never see again! Are you ready for an intriguing look at the landscapes from the seat of a 9-passengers coach built in 1860 or 1875 and restored lovingly and painstakingly to their original splendor?

Transfers – Costs based on vehicles for single travelers and up to eight guests. Price is per vehicle!

We will endeavor, wherever practicable, to pick-up as many guests as possible at one location in order to minimize the costs per person.
