Tour #3: Romantic Post-Coach Tour Through the Alps of Austria
Imagine travelling just as the nobility of another century did: with historic mail-coaches pulled by powerful, well trained horses, driven by experienced coachmen. The motto of the tour: Nature, Romanticism, Culture and Culinary Artistry. The five day trip begins in Bregenz’s Oberstadt and leads through the Bregenzer Wald, over the Faschinapass into one of the region’s most beautiful valleys: The Grosse Walsertal, and continues on to Feldkirch in Vorarlberg’s Oberland. The return trip leads through the Rhine valley back to Bregenz. The coach will cover between 30 and 50 km per day, when possible on secondary roads and tracks. The small groups – maximum number of participants per coach is nine – ensure individual attention.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Guests arrive on their own in Bregenz/Lake Constance, Austria, on request accomodation at the historical 4* hotel "Deuring Schlössle". Overnight and dinner on your own may be taken in the hotel.
Day 2: Enjoy your daily breakfast before we depart. Our route leads via Kennelbach, Buch and Alberschwende (lunch break) to Schwarzenberg in the Bregenzer Wald. We spend the night in the Romantik-hotel "Hirschen". A concert of zither music in the evening.
Day 3: The post-coach continues through the beautiful Bregenzer Wald countryside, along the Bregenzerache river to Au, where we stop for lunch. Either with a five-in-hand or with two more horses as cockhorses, we climb up the steep hills. For the night we stop in Damüls in the cosy little hotel "Adler".
Day 4: We continue the next 2 kilometers up to the imposing Faschina pass into the Grosse Walsertal. We spend the night in the monastery of St. Gerold. After a visit in the monastery’s wine cellar, there will be a classical recital of Schubert (love-)songs by the coelibateran(!) abbot.
Day 5: Our next stage takes us out of the Grosse Walsertal, into Vorarlberg’s Oberland region. We visit Feldkirch, a medieval city with an impressive castle, - the Schattenburg -, and spend the night in Feldkirch’s Romantic hotel "Alpenrose". A recital by members of the Feldkirch Conservatory is planned for the night in the hotel.
Day 6: The final stage of our trip leads from Feldkirch through the Rhine valley and along Lake Constance to Bregenz. Night in the 4*-hotel "Deuring Schloessle" in Bregenz.
Day 7: Tour ends following breakfast. Continue your journey from Bregenz.
